Ali Arezoumandifar was working his final shift on the night he planned to retire when he was shot to death by robbers, according to police.

The 79-year-old had recently sold the liquor store at which he was working at, the Liquor Market, when he was shot to death by assailants while he stood behind the counter. At the time, he was helping the liquor store’s new owner learn the business and it was his last day on the job – the final day before his long-awaited retirement.

According to The Sun-Sentinel, his family was at home waiting for him with a celebratory dinner the night of his death.

The store has no surveillance video of the incident, police indicated.

In the area nearby the liquor store where the tragic murder occurred, detectives reportedly combed the area in an attempt to locate surveillance footage from any nearby businesses.

Arezoumandifar’s liquor store was robbed just a month earlier by a man in a black mask who stole a tray of scratch-off lotto tickets, according to CBS affiliate WPEC.

Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater indicated that the Jupiter resident’s body was found on the floor by customers who called the cops at around 8:10 p.m. following their gruesome discovery.

Ali was declared dead at the scene.

In regards to last month’s robbery, police reportedly identified a woman and a man in what was reported to be a similar style robbery that took place a 7-11 convenience store. While authorities lacked evidence the evidence necessary to file charges in the liquor store’s last robbery, which took place on October 27, police intend on interviewing the two behind the similar robbery at 7-11. According to investigators, there is nothing that links the two to the Arezoumandifar’s death.

The family of the recently deceased has requested that their privacy be respected.
