Chevrolet’s new 2016 Malibu Hybrid is scheduled to go on sale next year and according to the manufacturer, the base model is priced at $28,645 — which includes the $875 “destination” charge but does not include tax, title, dealer fees and optional equipment costs.
The hybrid Malibu variant–manufactured at the GM Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas–is shooting for a fuel economy of 48 miles per gallon, which is quite the increase over the 2-3 MPG the earlier partial-hybrid version was rated for.
According to Steve Majoros, marketing director of Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers, the new Malibu builds upon “knowledge and technology” from the second-gen Chevy Volt. And it is by leveraging this knowledge and technology that the Detroit automaker is “broadening” their “level of expertise and lessons learned to bring consumers a world-class hybrid.”
The Malibu leverages knowledge and technology directly from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt (…) By leveraging technology, we are broadening our level of expertise and lessons learned to bring consumers a world-class hybrid.
The new ride offers safety technologies that are new to the Malibu. These new safety features include:
- Lane Keep Assist
- Low Speed Front Automatic Braking
- Front Pedestrian Braking
A “Teen Driver” feature, which is available on all models, mutes the car’s audio and paired devices when front-seat occupants fail to wear their seat-belts.
It also boasts an industry-first, a new feature that allows owners to monitor how their Malibus are driven — a feature intended to help parents assess the driving of their children.
A rare vision camera, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a 7-inch diagonal color touch screen, and Chevrolet MyLink Radio are but a few of the options included with the new Chevy.
As for the engine, the new hybrid runs on a Anew Ecotec 1.8L hybrid optimized direct-injected engine which is coupled with a two-motor electric drive unit.
