Deadpool actor Karan Soni has signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), according to the The Hollywood Reporter. The American actor plays the role of Dopinder, the taxi driver who accepts high-fives instead of money as a form of payment, and receives bad advice from Ryan Reynolds’ title character Deadpool.

Soni also plays a recurring character called Martin in Starz’ American TV show Blunt Talk (produced by Seth MacFarlane) which stars Patrick Stewart. He also appeared in Other Space and Betas.  Soni, who made his feature film debut in Colin Trevorrow’s Safety Not Guaranteed will return to the big screen this summer when Sony’s highly anticipated movie Ghostbusters hits theatres.

Deadpool was a major box office success for 20th Century Fox and smashed records. It beat The Matrix Reloaded to have the biggest R-rated opening of all time. It also had the biggest February weekend and the biggest President’s Day four-day weekend (beating Fifty Shades of Grey). Its now the biggest X-men movie (X-Men: The Last Stand) and the biggest Ryan Reynolds opening (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) according to USA Today.  The movie made $132.7 million in its four-day debut.

Soni spoke to the Deccan Chronicle about the characters he has previously played, saying he won’t take the part if he gets “offered a role where I play another cab driver”.

I have worked a lot in America and have played all kinds of characters. In my TV show Blunt Talk with Patrick Stewart, I play a news producer and there is nothing Indian about the character. This summer, I’ll be in the Ghostbusters movie where I play an American character. I did not feel like I was being stereotyped in Deadpool. In fact, I have never been cast as someone who speaks in Indian accent, so for me, playing Dopinder was different and I was really excited… and it was fun. But moving forward, if I get offered a role where I play another cab driver, I am not going to take that. That would be stereotyping.
