Boris Nemtsov Murder: 4 Suspects Arrested By Russian Authorities In Opposition Leader’s Shooting Death

Boris Nemtsov Murder Murder March

Russian authorities have arrested multiple men on Saturday in connection with Boris Nemtsov’s shooting death, according to Russian state media.

While an earlier report published by the Daily Times indicated that two suspects had been detained, a more recent CNN report indicates four men have been arrested in connection with the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s most outspoken critic, opposition leader Nemtsov.

Boris was gunned down in the shadow of the Kremlin while walking on a bridge in Moscow. Reports showed what appeared to be surveillance footage of the murder.

The late opposition leader served as Russia’s deputy prime minister in the ’90s, but later became an outspoken critic of Putin.

His death came on February 27, 2015, while he was walking home from a local cafe. His party’s co-chairman, Ilya Yashin, was quoted by Reuters as having said that he wanted to believe that those in custody “are really the ones” who killed Nemtsov.

I want to believe that these ones are really the ones who conducted [the assassination] and that once in a while law enforcement worked professionally and detained real assassins, and did not make a mistake […] The key task for investigators is to find and prosecute the ones who ordered this murder. If everything ends with the detention of scapegoats, irrespective of whether they are the real assassins or not, the practice of political assassinations will continue with no doubt.

Who do you think killed Boris Nemtsov, the people in custody or could the four men be scapegoats?
