Ford Motor Company is working on a couple of new lighting technologies which could make things easier and while the new car tech is not yet available for production vehicles, the automaker has released some interesting tidbits of information regarding the development.

In an announcement issued on Friday, the car manufacturer indicated that the advanced lighting system in the works has the ability to help drivers identify potential road hazards by spotlighting them with “New Spot Lighting” technology which helps draw the attention of the driver to potentially hazardous objects such as pedestrians, cyclists and even large animals such as deer.

Ken Washington, vice president of Ford Research and Advanced Engineering, stated in the company’s announcement that the company’s new lighting technologies “help ensure the driver is quickly alerted to people or animals that could present a danger”.

Many people who drive at night have had to quickly react to someone or something suddenly appearing in the road – as if from nowhere. Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting help ensure the driver is quickly alerted to people or animals that could present a danger

The Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System, which was developed at Ford’s European Research and Innovation Centre in Germany, provides drivers with improved visibility at roundabouts, stop and give-way or yield signs and is to be made available to customers in the near term.

Spot Lighting, which is currently in the pre-development phase, employs an infra-red camera in the front of the car to spotlight and track up to eight people as well as bigger animals at a range of up to 120 meters.
