Obama Believes He Could Win 3rd Term As President

President Obama told the African Union Tuesday that he feels he has been a “pretty good president,” and if he were allowed to run for a third term, he would most likely win.

The president made these statements during a speech criticizing African leaders who refuse to step aside at the conclusion of their terms. According to The New York Times, President Obama called for “long-entrenched” leaders in Africa to step down, while making comparative statements about his own political standing in the US as the first American president with African ancestry.

“I think if I ran, I could win,” he said. “But the law is the law and no person is above the law, not even the president.”

I actually think I’m a pretty good president. I think if I ran, I could win. But the law is the law, and no person is above the law, not even the president.

“There’s a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving,” Obama added, perhaps in reference to his recent remarks regarding his frustration over US gun laws. Last week in an interview with BBC, the president admitted that gun-safety would be the “unfinished business of his presidency.”

President Obama spoke candidly about the corruption within African nations, acknowledging that the issues are not unique to their continent, reports CNN. Obama said that he doesn’t understand the motivation behind leaders remaining in power through force, even when these leaders have “got a lot of money.” Reportedly, this portion of his speech garnered the loudest applause from those in attendance.

“Nothing will unlock Africa’s economic potential more than ending the cancer of corruption,” said an impassioned Obama.

Nothing will unlock Africa’s economic potential more than ending the cancer of corruption. When someone has to pay a bribe just to start a business or to go to school or get an official to do the job they’re supposed to be doing anyway — that’s not ‘the African way’; it undermines the dignity of the people you represent.

What do you think about Obama’s claim? Do you think he would he win a third term were he allowed to run?
