Slain Texas Deputy Darren Goforth’s GoFundMe Campaign Raises Over $300K

Darren Goforth

Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth was murdered while he was in uniform, pumping gas into his patrol car on August 28, 2015. Now, a GoFundMe campaign organized by fellow HCSO Deputy Brandon Herlong has managed to raise over $300,000 to help the late deputy’s grieving wife and children.

USA Today reported earlier today that volunteers manning the gas station where 47-year-old Goforth was shot and killed in the line of duty, a Chevron, managed to collect an additional $192,000.

While authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Houston man who has been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Deputy Goforth, investigators have yet to determine the shooter’s motive. But what is clear is the immense amount of support for the slain deputy’s family, support which has been made possible in part by the friends and colleagues he’s left behind.

Deputy Marc de Leon was quoted by USA Today as having said that he loves the support that they’ve been receiving.

It’s very overwhelming (…) I love the support we are getting, people saying thank you and they appreciate what you do.

While investigators try to determine Goforth’s killer’s motive, a similar investigation is underway in Las Vegas, Nevada after an assailant armed with a semi-automatic handgun walked up to two Las Vegas cops and opened fire while the officers were stopped at intersection, waiting for a red light to turn green while en route to a disturbance call.

The shooter behind the Las Vegas police shooting, which took place Sunday afternoon, has been arrested and a weapon believed to be the one used in the crime, which left one officer wounded, has been recovered.
