Samsung’s $99 Mobile Virtual Reality Headset Has Arrived

The new Samsung Gear VR, an Oculus-powered headset, has officially arrived. The $99 virtual reality headset, which is designed to work with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 line as well as their Note 5, has begun shipping to both U.S. and international customers.

The new device — which PC Magazine reports to be 22 percent lighter than the Innovator Edition, its predecessor — piggybacks off any of the aforementioned mobile smart devices in order to render a new virtual reality experience.

In proper modern VR capacity, the Gear VR can play games specifically designed for virtually reality such as Lands End, Gunjack and Mortal Blitz.

Those interested in buying the new mobile VR system that plugs directly into a smartphone, transforming it into a virtual space, can buy it now from Best Buy, Amazon and AT&T stores. PC Mag reports that it’ll also soon be available for purchase via T-Mobile.

In order to use the device, simply slide a Galaxy smartphone into the Gear VR “and you’re in,” according to Oculus.

Whenever you want to enter virtual reality, just take your GALAXY smartphone, slide it in the Gear VR, and you’re in. It’s that simple.

For movie watchers, the experience entails a fully-submerged movie theater going experience free of any distractions. But for gamers, it offers the ability for users to use their head movements to interact, explore and aim — transporting users to a whole new dimension of mobile gaming, or as Oculus writes on its website, “an entirely new way to play.”

Also available for the newly recently mobile VR headset is a winged gaming controller, the SteelSeries Stratus XL gamepad for Windows and Android, which looks like somewhat of a hybrid between the Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

What do you think of the new Gear VR, is it worth the $99?
