A deadly explosion at a chemical plant in Texas has left one worker dead and three others injured.

The explosion — which took place at the PeroxyChem facility in Pasadena, Texas — involved the spilling of a tank containing roughly 1,000 gallons of an oil-based cleaning solution, according to a spokesman with the Pasadena Police Department.

A statement from the company indicated that the explosion had taken place during a routine function being performed by a contractor.

While the Philadelphia-based company is continuing its investigation into the incident, the explosion has been attributed to a contractor’s equipment exploding.

The contractor whose equipment exploded died in the incident. Another contractor was among the injured. The other two injured in the explosion have been identified as employees of PeroxyChem.

Local police indicated that one of the workers injured in the explosion has a broken arm and that the other two were undergoing treatment for exposure, The Associated Press reported.

The PeroxyChem plant where the chemical leak explosion occurred is located at 12000 Bay Area Boulevard.

Company officials released the following statement on Saturday afternoon:

We are deeply saddened to report the loss of the contractor. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones

KHOU reported that the explosion took place at roughly 12:45 p.m. on January 16.
