Mother Accused Of Stuffing 2 Kids In Trunk Of Car

A woman in Pennsylvania has been accused of stuffing her children, aged 3 and 5 years, into the trunk of a friend’s red Corvette, then riding around town in it, CBS reports.

Policer officers from the Hanover Borough pulled the sports car over at around 8:40 p.m. on July 10 after receiving a 911 call that described a woman placing two children in the trunk of a red car in the 200 block of Second Avenue.

Authorities say that the mother, Jessica Marie Reger, 29, was in the passenger seat. The driver was Ilena Gale Blackburn, 28. The two women drove east on West Middle Street where they were pulled over by the police.

Officers asked Blackburn to open the Corvette’s trunk, where the children were found. It is unclear as to whether or not the children were injured or what the motive was for putting them in the trunk.

Hanover Police Chief Chad Martin told the Daily News that, “It was fortunate one of our officers was in the area and able to respond quickly.” He added, “There were definitely concerns about heat, exhaust fumes and a rear end collision.”

Reger faces two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. She remains in the York County Prison after she was not able to post a $2,500 bail. A mugshot from the prison shows Reger smiling from ear to ear.

This is not Reger’s first brush with the law. The Daily Mail reports that Reger has previous counts of shoplifting, driving without a license, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a child on her record.

Blackburn has likewise been charged with two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and two traffic offenses for improper child-restraint systems. Her arraignment is set for July 22, according to online court documents.

There has been no comment from Reger’s or Blackburn’s public defenders. The whereabouts and condition of Reger’s children are currently unknown.
