The former Olympic athlete and reality television star who recently revealed his plans to speak out about his transition from a man to a woman, Bruce Jenner, was involved in a fatal four-car accident on Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated.

Jenner was driving a black Cadillac SUV towing a trailer which was holding an all-terrain vehicle when he was involved in the deadly collision. His vehicle was the third vehicle involved in the multi-car accident.

The accident, which took place in Southern California, began with a Prius which stopped short, causing a Lexus sedan behind it to hit its brakes. At this point, Jenner’s Escalade rear-ended the Lexus, according to a report by KCAL, which cited deputies with knowledge of the incident. The Lexus then spun into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Hummer H2, killing the driver of the Lexus. The report indicated that Jenner’s SUV left skid marks.

The wreck took place just after noon on Pacific Coast Highway near Corral Canyon Road.

An investigation into vehicular manslaughter was opened by the sheriff’s department, CNN reported. The investigation focuses on everyone in the case, not a single person, according to  CNN‘s source.

Jenner voluntarily took a field sobriety test, answered questions and then went home, according to a deputy. The driver of the Lexus was a woman in her 70s, according to a Seattle PI report which also indicated that she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 65-year-old Jenner, who won the 1976 Olympic decathlon with a world record score for the 10-discipline event, was not injured in the accident, his publicist Alan Nierob indicated.

Authorities indicated that a total of two adults and five children were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Commander Mike Parker of the sheriff’s department tweeted after the accident that a car had driven through the safety barriers that were erected around the scene and struck two of the cars involved in the initial accident. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
