New Hampshire Police Have Arrest Warrant For Punxsutawney Phil

The Merrmack Police Department in New Hampshire is looking for the famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. According to the police department, although Phil did predict there would be six more weeks of winter, he did not let them in on how much snow they would be getting. Of course, this is all a joke that was posted on the police departments Facebook page with many others getting in on it as well by commenting.

According to USA Today on Feb 12, this is what the Facebook post by the Merrimack Police Department said:

We have received several complaints by the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty. He told several people that winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow.

They also said ever since Phil saw his shadow on Feb. 2, they have been getting hit with lots of snow. Although Phil is a meteorological groundhog who can predict whether or not we will all see more winter or an early spring, he most likely didn’t predict the police would be looking for him, according to the New York Daily News.

Everyone is getting in on the joke by commenting on the Facebook post. One woman even pretended to be Phil’s lawyer and had this to say when defending him.

Quite simply, Mr. Phil was asked to predict how much longer winter would last. He correctly did so, thus fulfilling his legal obligations. He was not asked to predict details pertaining to the weather; therefore, he was under no legal obligation to provide any.

The Merrimack, New Hampshire police are asking everyone to please call them if they see Punxsutawney Phil anywhere. He is facing life in the hole without parole if he is caught.
