Southwest Airlines Adds New Domestic And International Flights

Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines has announced its expansion into new markets as it adds new routes which are set to include new international flights as well as domestic ones — while simultaneously introducing introductory rates on the first eight international flights out of Houston, Texas.

Amongst the domestic expansion, the world’s largest low-cost carrier, Southwest Airlines Co., is bringing back non-stop flights from Houston to Tuscon, Arizona.

Southwest, which was established in 1967, is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The airline was founded by Herb Kelleher and Rollin King.

The company will also be switching all 31 pending aircraft orders for 2016 to larger variants of the Boeing Co. 737, according to a report on Bloomberg Business. which also indicated that the swap is to bring the U.S. airline’s 737-800 fleet to 135 by the end of 2016.

Bloomberg Business notes in its report that the move to larger planes reflects the company’s plans to incorporate planes with more legroom, if you will, as it expands the number of flights traveling to and from Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

The -800s offer 22 percent more seats than the -700s.

Beginning October 15 of this year, one-way flyers traveling to Cancun will be able to book a flight with the airline for as little as $149, while those interested in traveling to Costa Rica can fly there for just $174, according to a Chron report which quoted Southwest CEO Gary Kelly as having said that residents of Houston “have endured some of the highest international airfares in the country” and that they “deserve lower fares and better service.”

Houstonians have endured some of the highest international airfares in the country (…) Southwest is putting our promise, our people and our planes on these routes because you deserve lower fares and better service.

Restrictions, exclusions, and blackout dates are applicable.
